Triabit news for April, 2014

Driefontein wins G1 Robert Sangster Stakes

Driefontein today won the $400,000 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphetville, wearing the Triabit. Leading all the way, Driefontein was too strong for her rivals and won convincingly, making it two Group 1 Triabit winners in under an hour.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and ridden by Vlad Duric, Driefontein (starting at 11/2) held off Greggers and and then withstood a late challenge from the fast-finishing 5/2 favourite and last year's winner, Platelet, who came in second to make it another Triabit Group 1 quinella.
May's Dream wins G1 Australasian Oaks

May's Dream today won the Group 1 Australasian Oaks, wearing the Triabit. Trainer Darren Weir credited the magnificent ride by Brad Rawiller on the 9/4 favourite as the difference between winning and losing the race.

Rawiller was able to extract the maximum from May's Dream to claim the win right on the line in a bobbing finish.
Criterion wins G1 Australian Derby

Criterion, wearing the Triabit, today won the $2M Australian Derby. Trainer David Payne was ecstatic with the win, declaring that the horse will be even better when he comes back as a four-year old. Payne rated the win right up there with some of his biggest wins back in South Africa.

Jockey Hugh Bowman produced a beautifully timed ride to guide Criterion to a hands-and-heels win on the heavy track. Bowman settled the 15/8 favourite midfield and raced with cover until he spurred on him in the straight to beat Tupac Amaru and Hooked.
