Shamus Award wins $3M G1 Cox Plate in Triabit quinella

Breaking his maiden status in one of the most prestigious weight-for-age races in the world, Shamus Award today won the Group 1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley, wearing the Triabit. Second home was Happy Trails, the only other Triabit-wearing runner, to complete a Triabit quinella.

Starting at 20/1, and ridden by apprentice jockey Chad Schofield, the Danny O'Brien trained three-year old held off the fast-finishing Happy Trails, with Fiorente (strangely not wearing the Triabit today), finishing third.
Pakal wins Listed Cranbourne Cup

German stayer Pakal today won the Listed Cranbourne Cup, wearing the Triabit. The $200,000 race was won easily by the Mick Price trained import. Pakal carried the top weight of 60kg to victory, with a great ride from jockey Glen Boss.

Pakal was strongly supported, started at 7/2 after opening at 5/1. Mick Price is sure that German galloper's best is yet to come.
Solzhenitsyn wins G1 Toorak Handicap

After having won the 2012 Group 1 Toorak Handicap, Solzhenitsyn today made it back-to-back victories in the $400,000 event, wearing the Triabit on both occasions. Beautifully ridden by Nash Rawiller, Solzhenitsyn took the lead with about 200m to go, and was too strong for French galloper Trevieres, who finished second.

Trainer Robert Heathcote was full of praise for the ride by Nash Rawiller, who had the horse in the right position the whole race. The win takes Solzhenitsyn's earnings past one million dollars.
Platelet wins G2 Gilgai Stakes

Trainer Darren Weir continued his great run when Platelet today saluted in the $220,000 Group 2 Gilgai Stakes at Flemington, wearing the Triabit. Ridden by Michelle Payne, Platelet showed a turn of foot in the straight that was too much for her rivals.

Sytarting at 15/2, Platelet's win today takes her earnings past one million dollars. Darren Weir is now eyeing off a place in the up-coming Manikato Stakes for the five-year-old mare.
Rock Hero wins Listed Dulcify in Triabit quinella

Rock Hero today won the Listed Dulcify Quality, wearing the Triabit. The Fastnet Rock colt jumped awkwardly and had to settle back, rather than sit up near the lead. But jockey Glyn Schofield was able to relax him and let him charge home to win.

Rock Hero was still three lengths behind the leaders with only a furlong to go but, as so many other Triabit-wearing horses have done, he was able to finish with a stronger burst than his rivals. Trainer David Payne was very happy with the win, commenting on the horse's versatility after the race pland went out the window at the start.

Liberty Choice, starting at 15/1, ran a game second, also wearing the Triabit, to make it a Triabit quinella.
Happy Trails wins G1 Turnbull Stakes

Happy Trails today scored a very impressive victory to win the $500,000 Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington today, wearing the Triabit. Starting at 25/1, Happy Trails was too strong for Melbourne Cup contenders Puissance De Lune, Hawkspur and Fiorente.

Trained by Paul Beshara and ridden by Dwayne Dunn, Happy Trails showed the kind of form today that bodes well for his Spring campaign. Paul Beshara has consistently said that the horse is under-rated and today he was proven correct when Happy Trails disposed of his more fancied rivals.
Honorius wins G3 Craven Plate

The David Payne trained Honorius, wearing the Triabit, today won the Group 3 Craven Plate at Randwick, holding off the favourite, Masked Marvel. The win was his first black-type result and justifies the trainer's hopes for him through the Spring.

Jockey James McDonald settled Honorius nicely before making a late surge with just over a furlong to go. McDonald commented after the race on how Honorius was able to find plenty in the final dash to the line.
